Planet is a global payments specialist. Starting life in the 1980s as a tax validation table in Dublin airport, Planet has grown to become a market leader operating in five continents, serving over 600,000 merchants with annual transactions worth €45bn and a client roster that stretches from Gucci to W Hotels.
Following a major acquisition, Planet’s leadership asked us to help them establish the fundamentals of an evolved business and brand that could drive ambitious growth and expansion.
Over the course of three years, Something More Near assembled expert swarms of specialist expertise and uncommon talent to tackle strategic challenges ranging from future portfolio and acquisition strategies to brand creation, organisational culture, product architecture and communications planning.
By March 2020, the business had more than tripled its transactions with a consistent year-on-year growth in excess of 15%.
Using the brand project as an opportunity to foster a sense of international ambition, we led a creative process involving design teams from Moscow to Tokyo and Abu Dhabi. The identity has been implemented across thousands of touchpoints worldwide, from apps to point-of-sale terminals and airport lounges.
During 2019 we assembled a team of journalists, disruptors and analysts to develop future scenarios & strategies of the business, leading to the successful acquisition of 3C Payment in 2020, doubling the value of transactions processed to €45bn each year.
